Parallel processing takes advantage of multiple processing cores. In ArcGIS, you can set a parallel processing factor to maximize this efficiency.
In ArcGIS Pro, you can instruct the software to use multiple CPU cores by clicking through Analysis > Geoprocessing > Environments, then specifying the Parallel Processing Factor.
In the example below, typing “100%” indicates that the software should use all available cores on the machine.
TIP: To specify parallel processing on a case-by-case basis, many tools have a Parallel Processing factor option within their Environment settings as well.
