To generate a point feature class from a polygon feature class, use the Feature to Point tool. The resulting points will retain the attributes of the input polygons.

the Feature to Point tool

Find the Feature to Point tool in Geoprocessing panel under Data Management Tools > Features > Feature to Point. Alternatively, you can search for the tool in the Geoprocessing panel’s search bar.

Tool Parameters

  • Select your input features and specify the name and location for the output features

  • Check the Inside option to create the points inside the polygons, in the case that the centroid sits outside their boundaries.

Tool Outputs

The tool generates a point feature class (one point feature per input feature). The output feature class contains the same attributes as the input feature class.
