Map view bookmarks are a useful tool to save views of your map view at chosen scales and extents. This is especially useful when creating multiple layouts of your data at various scales, when frequently zooming as you are working within your project, or when you have multiple specific areas of interest within a single project.

Creating Bookmarks

Once you have established the scale and position of the map view you would like to bookmark, you can create a new bookmark by clicking through Bookmarks (on the Map tab of the main menu ribbon) > New Bookmark… (as shown in the screenshot on the left below).

This will summon the Create Bookmark dialogue where you can name the bookmark (for easy reference later) and save it by clicking OK (shown in the screenshot on the right below).

Returning to the Bookmarks drop-down in the main menu ribbon, you will find your bookmarked map view. Clicking this bookmark will reset your map view to match the scale and location established by the bookmark.

The other useful options available in this dropdown include…

  • Manage bookmarks within this this project (including renaming and deleting bookmarks)

  • Export or Import bookmarks. You can export your bookmarks for use in other projects or import save bookmarks for this project.
